Why We Chose Logic of English
As a new homeschooler, I was looking for a curriculum that was easy to follow and would give me confidence in teaching my son language arts. I also wanted to give him a solid phonics foundation to support his reading and spelling skills.
Logic of English stood out because of its structured approach and multi-sensory learning. Both are important in our neurodivergent household.

Our Experience So Far
- Current Level/Stage: We’re about 2 lessons away from finishing Foundations D.
- What We’ve Completed: We completed Foundations A and B in first grade, C in second grade, and are now moving through D.
- What’s Next: After we finish Foundations, we’ll begin Essentials in the fall, for fourth grade. My son will be 8 years old. Some users recommend a gap year before moving onto Essentials if you start Foundations in kindergarten.
What We Love About Logic of English
- Scripted Lessons: As a newer homeschooler, I appreciated having a detailed script to tell me exactly what to say and when. It takes the guesswork out of teaching. Now I appreciate it for the open-and-go ease. You can listen to the phonogram sounds on the website as well.
- Multi-Sensory Approach: From phonogram books, readers, letter tiles, and flashcards to music soundtracks, the curriculum provides a variety of ways for my son to engage with language.
- Adaptable: In the earlier books we skipped the traditional writing to focus on fine motor skill development and instead used alternatives like the included letter tiles, dry erase boards, and alphabet stamps/stickers for spelling.
- Community Support: The Facebook group for Logic of English is an invaluable resource where we can ask questions and learn from others’ experiences.

What Could Be Improved
- Online Content: While the online options are helpful, they’re said to be more of a supplement than a standalone resource. More interactive online features would be a plus.
- Font: This is more of a personal nitpick. The slanted font and stroke instruction were tedious and not intuitive for my son. We quickly switched to the Handwriting Without Tears method, simply printing the free letter formation charts.
- Cost: I would love to see a PDF version of the student workbook and teacher manual at a reduced cost.
How It Fits Our Homeschooling Journey
Logic of English has helped my son build a strong foundation in reading and spelling, making learning fun and engaging. The program allows for flexibility, which fits well with our hands-on learning style.
Community & Support
- Facebook Group: A great place to ask questions and get quick responses.
- Free Resources: Logic of English offers a variety of free videos and resources to complement the curriculum, such as their spelling analysis videos on YouTube, and Phonogram tiles app.
Progress & Achievements
We celebrated finishing Foundations A with an “alphabet party” as suggested in the book. There is also a certificate included at the end of every book. My son has greatly improved his spelling and reading comprehension since starting the program and continues to love ELA.

Conclusion: Would I Recommend Logic of English?
I highly recommend Logic of English for families looking for a structured, adaptable, and multi-sensory approach to language arts. It has been a wonderful fit for our homeschool and has made teaching reading and spelling much easier. Starting with this curriculum was one of the best homeschooling decisions I made.
